August 19, 2016 SUNDAY IN REVIEW: FOUNDATIONAL BELIEFS This upcoming Sunday, we will wrap up our series on Foundational Beliefs by talking about Communion. The sermon is entitled, “In Remembrance Of Me.” Generally, there are 4 different ways that Christians view Communion. Regardless of the way it is viewed, everyone agrees that Communion is a time to remember what Jesus did for us on the cross. Every church I have attended has viewed Communion as a unique and solemn time to draw close to Jesus. I’ve often been surprised how people may talk in the congregation while someone up front is talking–or even praying! But it seems no one does this when it’s time for Communion. Who We Are

Our little church could compare ourselves to other larger churches who have much more money, people, resources than we do. Then we might become compelled to feel insecure about ourselves, perhaps even despairing. But those things aren’t important to us. Instead, we believe in a Gospel that changed the entire world through the lives of only 12 people. They had no money (Acts 3:6), and probably gathered in small numbers (Acts 2:46), but yet they had something much more powerful than rockin’ worship music or motivational speakers. They had the Holy Spirit. Christianity shouldn’t have taken off like it did. The only reason why lives were changed for eternity was because God was at work through this small number of uneducated people. Our church asks the question: shouldn’t the same be true today? Why despair? We serve an incredible God. Jesus really did rise from the dead, He really is alive today, and through the Holy Spirit, He has given us that same power! How incredible that we have...
